Everything I Wish I Knew Before Getting Custom PXG Clubs
For April only, PXG is launching a “Hole In One” challenge when you book an In-store fitting! So what does this mean exactly?
1. When you sign up for your fitting, you will have the option to select the complimentary Hole in one event!
2. You will get 3 swings to make a hole in one at the famous island green Par 3 #17 at PGA West
3. If you make a Hole In One, you will get your full fitting bag order, FOR FREE!
I’ll be the first to admit that I’m no scratch golfer.
I love playing 18 holes on the weekends and can consistently break 100. But these rounds always involve my friends roasting me about my outdated clubs — which I thought were totally fine.
For years, I’d watch my golf buddies outdrive me on every hole. They’ve all got custom clubs from PXG, which they insist I must try. I’d shrug it off every time with the same excuse, “custom clubs are for serious players, not weekend hacks like me.”
In my mind, spending the time (and money) to get custom-fitted clubs felt like overkill. I figured the off-the-rack set I bought a few years back was more than good enough for the kind of casual golfer I am.
Eventually, the fear of missing out got to me, and I booked a full-bag fitting session at my local PXG store.
It made all the difference.
Here’s Everything I Wish I’d Known About PXG:
I was always hesitant to get fitted for clubs because I have a pretty unique swing. Plenty of golf pros have tried to “fix” it, but I’d end up sticking with what feels most comfortable.
So I was impressed when my PXG master fitter Josh started our session with, “I’m not here to give you swing advice. I’m here to find the clubs that work for your swing.” I instantly felt comfortable and we established a baseline by hitting my current 7-iron.
Josh assured me that we’d find the perfect setup, so we tried different shaft and clubhead combinations. He carefully analyzed and explained all of my swing data from their Trackman-fitted hitting bays — I knew I was in good hands.
The first few clubs I swung felt good, but after testing their player’s distance irons with a more flexible shaft — we both had an a-ha moment. He dialed in the right shaft with the 0311 XP GEN7 head, and my shots were going straighter and further than I’d ever seen.
That was when I realized that my old clubs were truly holding me back.
We moved on to the driver portion of the fitting, which is probably the weakest part of my game. I was shocked to see my drives going 20-40 yards further with their Wildcat driver. PXG’s innovative club tech is the real deal. And with shots like these, I’ll be the one outdriving everyone.
Along with their massive hitting bays, PXG stores have sleek putting greens where we tested various putters. After evaluating my stroke path, lie angle, and grip preferences — we settled on their Allan putter (which features Zero Torque Balance Technology to keep your putter face square and on target.) I never knew so much data went into putting — and the cup felt magnetic with the Allan putter.
When wrapping up the fitting, I worried that price would be a serious hurdle. I just found my dream clubs and didn’t want to break the bank in the process.
But then Josh told me that PXG currently offers 20% off when I buy any 14+ clubs. Not only that, but verified PXG Heroes get an additional 10% off — amazing. So my set turned out to be very reasonable. And even cheaper than the other top brands I’d considered.
Final Thoughts:
It’s been 2 months since I got my custom PXG clubs, and I’m a completely different golfer. I’m way more confident over the ball, and my shots actually back it up with improved accuracy and distance. Driving used to be a weakness, but now I look forward to bombing one down the middle of the fairway almost every time.
I can’t believe I didn’t go to PXG sooner because the hype is 100% real. Now I have to listen to my friends say, “I told you so” every round we play. But it doesn’t sting that much when I’m outdriving them and getting closer to the pin.
If you’re on the fence about going with custom clubs, head to your nearest PXG store and get yourself a custom fitting. Don’t make the same mistake I did — give PXG a try now to secure the perfect clubs for your swing.
